Hello friends! Today I bring you a very different post. I must admit, this is work of an amateur. I am not good at decorating cookies, I lack patience. However, I know some people would like to learn a few things on decorating cookies so here is my little contribution.
I didn’t have any icing sugar on hand, so I couldn’t make royal icing to decorate the cookies. I decided to use melted white chocolate to add even more flavour to the cookies. Since I was using something as complicated to handle as melted chocolate, I decided to go full on basic decoration.
For the mummies, I started by making the eyes using a knife; then, using a fork, I made somo crossed lines all over the cookie (carefully avoiding the eyes). If you don’t have a gingerbread men cookie cutter, you could use a round cutter and just make a big mummy face using the same technique.
For the skeletons, I started with a big line on the center. Then I made the lines for the ribs, the legs and arms. For the skull, I made some old style skulls in some cookies; for others, I made the eyes, then a smile with little lines to give it a more «scary» look. I got the idea for this easy skeleton in pinterest. I must admit, I have seen some incredible creations in pinterest… I wish I had the skills to make them! If you are kind of an artist, go ahead and let loose your creativity! 😉
I also decided to use the fondant I had bought in the Madrid Fashion Cake event. I am not a huge fan of fondant. I don’t like the taste nor the combination of cake + fondant. BUT, I have to admit it is easier to work with fondant than with royal icing. And, if you are very lucky, you’ll find a fondant with a delicious flavor (like the one I bought which tastes just like candies). If you don’t have fondant or don’t want to buy it, here is a tutorial to diy fondant.
To make the ghosts, I cut fondant using the same cookie cutter I had use for the cookies. Then, I brushed some water on the backside of the fondant cover and put it over the cookie, pressing lightly. Using a fork, I made small eyes.
And that’s all, folks! Easy peasy Halloween decorated cookies. If you want the recipe for the roll-out cookies I used, here it is:
RECIPE
200gr butter, room temperature
200gr icing sugar
1 large-size egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
350gr flour
50gr cocoa powder
- Cream together the butter and sugar. The mixture needs to achieve a white, creamy texture.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract. Whisk thorougly.
- Add the flour and cocoa powder. Mix carefully.
- Make two cookie dough balls. Roll them between two sheets of parchtment paper and place them in the frigde for a couple of hours.
- Take them out and cut the cookies. Put the cookies back in the fridge for another hour.
- Preheat oven to 170ºC.
- Bake the cookies for about 8 – 10 minutes or untill the cookies are golden brown.
- Let the cookies cool before decorating them.
- ENJOY!

¡Hola amigos!
